The Sports Company of Trinidad and Tobago has commenced construction and rehabilitation works on three community recreation grounds.
- Northern Recreation Ground (Diego Martin)
- Pelota Recreation Ground (Santa Rosa)
- Harding Place Recreation Ground (Cocorite)
These grounds are three of eight active construction projects under the company’s purview with an additional twenty projects expected to begin within the next three months.
Part of the construction process of has been the engagement of stakeholder consultations at various stages of the project lifecycle. The company’s approach to open and continuous communication with the targeted users of the facility is critical to ensuring the overall success of each project.
Members of the SPORTT’s Construction Management Team met with representatives of the various communities to get their feedback and provide details on the scope of works to be done at each ground.
The scopes for each facility include but are not limited to the following.
Northern Recreation Ground
Phase 1
- Outfield Construction
- Resurfacing and reconstruction of Field
- Re-grassing works
- Cricket Pitch Rehabilitation
- Drainage works
Phase 2
Installation of Bleachers
Pelota Recreation Ground
· General Rehabilitation and Resurfacing of Field
· Construction of Box Drains
· Installation of Bleacher Base
Harding Place Recreation Ground
· Outfield Works
· Fencing & Gates
· Seating Accommodation
The team of SPORTT included, Leon Legendre; Manager Project Construction, Wesley Bridgemohansingh; Manager Project Administration and Quality Assurance, Jason Atkinson; Construction Coordinator, Abdul Assalam; Project Coordinator. The team met with various stakeholder representatives including Patrick Rampersad, President of Merry Boys Cricket Club at Northern Recreation Ground, Clemmy Roberts, Community Football Coach at Pelota Recreation Ground and Nigel James, Police Officer and community coordinator at Harding Place Recreation Ground. Similar type of stakeholder interventions are expected to take place with SPORTT’s various construction projects across Trinidad and Tobago.
